Desert Research Station
(DRS), Hinkley,California. Sponsored by the Center for Land Use Interpretation,
the DRS is open to the public for tours that offer information about the Mojave
Desert.
The Desert
Studies Center (a California State University field station), provides opportunity
for individuals and groups to conduct research, receive instruction and experience
the Mojave desert environment east of Barstow, California at Zzyyxx.
The Mojave Desert Heritage &
Cultural Association's mission is to research and conserve the natural and
cultural history of the Mojave Desert region.They operate a research center,
library, and archives for this purpose.They also restore significant structures,
conserve open space, and produce guidebooks and historical publications.
The Centennial Museum
is an academic support and outreach unit of the University of Texas at El Paso
focusing on the natural and cultural history of the border regions of the southwestern
United States and Mexico. It promotes and shares knowledge and understanding of
the natural and cultural diversity of the region.
Canyonlands Field
Institute promotes the understanding of, connection
with and care for the land and people of the Colorado Plateau. They offer outdoor
and environmental education adventures covering science, ecology, cultures and
natural history through hiking and river trips, workshops, tours and a Graduate
Residency Program in Environmental Education.
Grand Canyon
Field Institute (GCFI, a non-profit organization)
offers hiking, backpacking, and day classes in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Whether you are looking for a remote wilderness expedition or a beginner's introduction
to backcountry trekking, GCFI has a class for you!
The Natural
Arch and Bridge Society (NABS), a non-profit volunteer organization promoting
the study, enjoyment and preservation of natural rock arches and bridges worldwide.

The Ghost Town Explorers
provide ore cart loads of information on ghost towns in the deserts of California
and Nevada!
The Imperial Valley
College Desert Museum educates people about the desert under the main theme
of "human adaptation to arid lands." The Museum helps people gain
a better understanding of arid living in southeastern California. Archeological
knowledge of the Imperial Valley has grown through the research of many scholars,
as has the College's collection of artifacts.
Natural History (Paleontology, Taxonomy, etc.)
The Anza-Borrego
Desert Natural History Association is dedicated to educational and interpretive
activities and to the promotion of historical and scientific endeavors pertinent
to the "Colorado Desert" subdivision of the Sonoran desert, including
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the largest State Park in the USA.

The Arizona Native Plant Society
is a nonprofit organization devoted to Arizona's native plants. Its purposes
are: to broaden knowledge and appreciation of Arizona plants and habitats; work
to protect those native plants and habitats; and to encourage landscaping with
Arizona native plants and other noninvasive plants.
Boyce Thompson Southwest
Arboretum The American Southwest's oldest and most
spectacularly situated arboretum and botanical garden. Mining magnate Colonel
William Boyce Thompson founded this arboretum near Superior, Arizona, (east
of Phoenix) to imbue in people an appreciation of plants.
The California Native Plant Society,
working through its local chapters, seeks to increase understanding of California's
native flora and to preserve this rich resource for future generations.

Ground Water Protection Council
The Ground Water Protection Council is a national association of state ground
water and underground injection control agencies whose mission is to promote
the protection and conservation of ground water resources for all beneficial
uses, recognizing ground water as a critical component of the ecosystem.
