Here's a blurb from the Spring, 2003 Stone Canyon News:
DRY REMARKS
"After five days, you're looking for
a body in one of these crags. He's a Vietnam-era Marine. The man, he had a will
to survive. Otherwise, he wouldn't be there."
Kirk Cloyd, Riverside (CA) Mountain Rescue Unit (April, 2003).
Cloyd refers to Marvin Matsumoto, a 59 year-old San Jose, California man who fell while hiking and was trapped in a crevice with head injuries for 4 days in the Wonderland of Rocks area of Joshua Tree National Park. Lucky for Matsumoto, he was not only rescued, but he could not remember any part of the entire ordeal! Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
